A note on Carl

Carl was a great guy; he liked basketball, Japanese monster movies, and good code. Perhaps the “good code” doesn’t resonate with everyone but it does with programmers and he wrote lots of it. My first interactions with him were like those of so many others – he was helping me in the forums when I was first learning ApEx.

Carl was always encouraging and quickly became a role model to me. After a few years had passed and I learned I’d be attending ODTUG with him this year, I jumped at the opportunity to be his ambassador – just to make sure I’d met him. I’m really glad to have had that opportunity.

As young as Carl was when he died, I feel it’s safe to say that he left quite a mark on this world. It’s people like him, those that selflessly enrich the lives of others that always do. He will be sorely missed but not forgotten. Again, my condolences to his friends and family.
